Why do you do what you do?

We have a true passion and commitment to finding the right person for every job; not only in terms of skills and experience but also attitude, personality and ability to fit into the team. Our consultants are trained to invest a large amount of time and effort into the process of recruitment, ensuring all clients are met on a face-to-face basis in order to familiarise ourselves with their business and its operations to make sure clients work with us on a repeat, sole basis.

Ashberry not only finds candidates for the positions available, but also provides a full after-care service, remaining in contact with both the candidate and client throughout the life of the contract, conducting regular feedback meetings and contractual assessments. It is for this reason that Ashberry has a number of nationally recognised clients on its books, and year on year, every one of these clients has increased its use of the agency’s expertise.

How did you get into your field?

"After completing a degree in Business and Personnel I secured a graduate training opportunity with a large national recruiter, where I spent the first 2 years of my career. I was then headhunted to join a specialist public sector recruiter and worked my way up to senior management. 8 years later Kate and I decided to go it alone and in June 2010 Ashberry Recruitment was born". "After a successful career within the Tourism Industry as a Travel Agent Manager and a little persuasion from Jennifer I decided to try my hand at recruitment. After establishing myself within the housing sector I worked my way up to Housing Team Manager and then Associate Director for a large national recruitment business. What drives you?

In providing the best service possible to our customers, even as Directors we still get a real buzz and sense of achievement of finding the perfect candidate for our client or the perfect job for our candidates. We pride ourselves on our aftercare principals; we don’t stop at finding the best match for our customers we remain in contact with both the candidate and the client during the life of a temporary contract, conducting regular feedback meetings and for permanent placements for the first 3 months to ensure that both parties are happy. 

What's your greatest success story?

Being awarded the Red Rose Award for Small Business of the Year was a great achievement.  Although setting up in a small Lancashire village when competing against big city agencies showed guts, but we knew that we could offer something which the others weren’t; a full, consultancy service from beginning to end. Since conception in June 2010 we have enjoyed a number of significant achievements with turnover and profits increasing year on year. The business demonstrates growth not only financially but within our staff team and most impressively the diverse range of sectors within which we now recruit.

As a niche recruiter operating from just one office in Pendle, Ashberry has grown to boast a portfolio of national clients and proudly employs 'home-grown' specialist recruiters across a broad range of industries.

What's the most important lesson you've learned whilst building your business?

We have learnt some valuable lessons along the way but the most importantly to plan ahead! Ashberry grew quicker than we first envisaged and we had to run to keep up but we now forecast and plan well ahead in order to meet demand and foresee requirements.

Staffing is obviously our thing but we have learnt how important it really is to employ the right people for your team; those who share our company’s vision and values are harder to find than we initially realised but we are now proud to employ a carefully selected, happy and hardworking team with more opportunities for like-minded individuals in the pipeline!

We are also now lucky enough to be selective with our client base also – affiliating ourselves with reputable organisations whose ethos mirrors ours. We’ve learnt that quality succeeds quantity and feel this will ensure our future growth and success.
